Shannon Berger
I was born and raised in Western North Carolina, and still identify as a mountain girl, in spite of living in Charlotte for more than a decade. Growing up in the mountains fostered a love of nature that can be seen in almost every area of my life. I believe that the Earth already possesses everything that it needs to provide and sustain healthy life. Similarly, I believe that we, as humans, already possess what is needed to do the same. I use this belief to customize holistic treatment plans for each client that will best assist in their individual transformative process.
I earned my Bachelor’s degree in English Education from Appalachian State University, I spent several years teaching high school English. It was through this experience that my desire to transition into counseling was sparked. After earning my Masters degree at Winthrop University, I worked for a couple of years at the campus’ Office of Victims Assistance, working with trauma survivors. This experience demonstrated to me the resiliency of human nature and the transformative power of therapy.
In my time outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family and learning from nature. I have a passion for herbalism and learning the healing properties of plants and herbs. It is my hope to one day incorporate this knowledge into the holistic framework of my practice. During therapy, I may integrate therapeutic interventions from Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Reality and Choice therapy, and more; in effort to provide my client with a variety of potential pathways to achieve their goals.
